What has changed since the change of government?

Gold reserves

0.0%since the change of government

The latest figure compared with the value when the new government took office – and, for comparison, how the indicator moved over the same length of time before the change. This is a short period: the indicators are also strongly driven by the world economy, earlier decisions and seasonal effects, so changes cannot be attributed to the new government alone.

About this indicator

During the transition the central bank's gold stock was cut from about 46 tonnes to 3.1 tonnes, where it stayed until 2018. The MNB then increased it tenfold in October 2018 (31.5 t), tripled it in March 2021 (94.5 t) and raised it to 110 tonnes in September 2024.

The latest figure (27 Oct 2026) is 110.0 t, under the Magyar Péter government. The series goes back to 1993; the highest value was 110.0 t (30 Sep 2024) and the lowest 3.1 t (1 Jan 1993).
