Methodology & sources
This site brings Hungary's key economic and social indicators together in clear, interactive charts. Data are downloaded directly from the public databases of official statistical providers and refreshed automatically at least every 6 hours – exchange rates and the base rate every hour.
Data sources
- Hungarian National Bank (MNB) – official daily exchange rates, gold reserves
- Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) – earnings, real wages, consumer price index
- Eurostat – inflation, labour market, GDP, public finances, tax revenue, population, house prices
- World Bank (World Development Indicators) – long annual series (inflation since 1973, GDP per head, reserves)
- Bank for International Settlements (BIS) – central bank base rate since 1987
- Government Debt Management Agency (ÁKK) – central government debt and monthly budget balance
- European Commission – Weekly Oil Bulletin – weekly fuel prices in Hungary and neighbouring countries
- Tax authority (NAV) and Hungarian Official Gazette – tax rules, allowances, price regulation (maintained by hand)
If a source is temporarily unavailable, the site shows the most recently downloaded data. Every indicator page lists the exact source, the update time and a CSV download. Data freshness and cross-checks against independent sources are shown on the Data status page.
How are governments marked?
Chart lines and background bands take the colour of the party that led the government; the prime minister's name is printed at the top of each band. For monthly, quarterly and annual data we use the middle of the period, so a year belongs to the government that was in office for most of it. The colours were chosen to remain distinguishable for colour-blind readers. The colouring is for orientation only: many factors outside a government's control affect every indicator.

Support
The site is free, ad-free and independent, and we'd like to keep it that way. Running the server and the domain and checking the data continuously still takes money and a lot of work. If you find the site useful, a voluntary donation helps keep it going.
Donations are taken on Ko-fi, where you can pay by card without registering. A donation is a voluntary gift: nothing is given in return and it does not influence the content. We do not accept support from parties, the government or political organisations.
Disclaimer and independence
This site is independent and unofficial: it is not affiliated with the institutions above, any political party or the government, and receives no support from them. Figures are downloaded automatically from the sources' public databases and are not altered; our own calculations (such as debt per person or real wages) are labelled on the page concerned. Chart colours show the party leading the government at the time, for orientation only; the 'improved/worsened' labels only show the direction of an indicator and do not judge governments – many factors outside a government's control affect every indicator. Tax rules and price regulations are tracked by hand from laws and official announcements and may lag. We accept no liability for errors or delays; always check the original source before making decisions.
